A lifetime spent with horses has left me no less fascinated by their beauty and their wonderful characters. It is something I try to capture in my drawings.
I am retired now and no longer have any horses, but my memory keeps them close to me. I have drawn horses since I was able to hold a pencil and, though my working life held me away from pursuing my passion for drawing, I now have the time to let my imagination free.
Although I have worked with coloured pencils in the past, creating designs in a curious mosaic style like those shown below, the onset of computers and art tablets gave me the chance to expand my vision and bring my ideas to life. I like to get down to very detailed, close work and the medium allowed me to do just that.
Horses have been a part of my life since childhood and they are what drives my art. I try to capture the beauty, elegance and strength that is part of every horse. Working digitally allows me to focus on the fine detail which I love--to perfect an eye or a nostril gives me great satisfaction. As I work from memory, it takes time to find the right movement, the right flex of muscle, the right 'look', but when it all comes together I feel as though the horse lives and breathes, ready to share its spirit with me.
I hope that my artwork can show a glimpse of a horse's power and fluid movement along with the idea of freedom and grace which they represent.
This website is, like my drawings, a work in progress. I hope you like my horses and that you will return often to see any new additions to the stable.
Thanks for visiting!
